Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your office and what areas do you serve?

My office is located at 34 Mayhew Drive, South Orange, NJ 07079. I see clients in person from South Orange, Maplewood, West Orange, Montclair, Millburn, and throughout the greater Essex County area.

What is psychodynamic therapy, and how is it different from CBT?

Psychodynamic therapy examines the deeper patterns and past experiences that shape how one feels and behaves in the present, with the aim of lasting insight and change. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy remains more focused on altering specific thoughts and behaviors in the present. Both are effective, and I draw on each according to the concern at hand.

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples?

Emotionally Focused Therapy is a well-researched approach to couples work that helps partners understand the emotional cycle underlying their recurring conflicts and learn to reconnect, rather than simply teaching communication techniques.

Do you work specifically with men?

Yes. A significant portion of my practice is devoted to working with men on stress, anger, relationships, anxiety, depression, and life transitions, in a direct and nonjudgmental setting.

What happens in a first session?

The first session is a conversation about what has brought you in, something of your history, and what you hope to achieve. There is no pressure to share more than you are ready to, and by the end you will have a sense of whether we are a good fit.
